The Photographer

Thomas Ulrich was born on November 16, 1967. While training as a carpenter and a mountain-guide Thomas did the most difficult climbs already as a youngster. In 1988 he set out on the first of his seven expeditions to Patagonia, where he and his friends managed the first winter ascent up the Ferrari route to the top of Cerro Torre in 1999. The pictures of this expedition were published in the "National Geographic Magazine".

The first successful crossing of the Southern Patagonian Inland Ice in the year 2003 without depots and outside help achieved by Thomas and the Norwegian Borge Ousland was also sponsored and published by "National Geographic". Thomas Ulrich built up his career as a self-taught outdoor photographer. Today he is known as one of the leading photographers in this field. Evidence of this are his publications in numerous magazines and books as well as commissioned work in the field of outdoor activities for big companies.
